ViCi Gaming.Reborn got Evil Geniuses eliminated, 1:0, in the first round of the Manila Major Lower Brackets. After placing second to last in their group during the tournament’s groupstage, Evil Geniuses are the third team to be knocked out of contention in the main event. The TI5 champions will walk away with $30,000. ViCi Gaming.Reborn will face the loser of the Newbee-Digital Chaos series in the second round of the Lower Brackets, on June 9th, at 04:00 CEST.
The third series of the Manila Major lower brackets was a surprising upset staged after a monumental comeback fight.
ViCi Gaming.Reborn had a rough start in the Manila Major. They did not pick up a single win during the group stage and placed last in their group. Six weeks prior, they took the championship title at the StarLadder i-League Invitational and were looking like a robust team with spectacular plays, deserving of their direct invite to the Manila Major.
Evil Geniuses did not fair much better, having missed out on taking a full series in the groupstage, securing only one victory against Mineski and one against LGD Gaming. Their results placed them second to last in their group and forced the TI5 championship team to take the lower bracket route in the Manila Major playoffs.
Evil Geniuses started out the match taking the lead and coming out strong. ViCi Gaming.Reborn didn’t let that get to them. After an engagement at the Roshan Pit around minute 31, the flow of the game changed and ViCi Gaming.Reborn were poised for a comeback. The intense game ended in 40 minutes with a rampage by Yang “Zyf” Pu on Lifestealer.
The younger Chinese team saw Evil Geniuses eliminated and claimed their spot in the lower brackets round 2.
