Fnatic announced the update to the roster including the long awaited return of Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung to competitive play. His return stimulates a domino effect of changes in the Fnatic roster -including moving Adam Erwann Shah “343” bin Akhtar Hussein into a primary role on the team and the departure of Wai Pern “Net” Lim.
343 had stepped in for the team as a substitute on two separate occasions. The first time was for Djardel “DJ” Mampusti after the Shanghai Major to address visa issues and the second time was when Mushi had to seek medical treatments for approximately two months. In both instances, 343 displayed incredible talent and synergy with the team.
With six talented players and the team’s stunning success as of late, they were faced with the difficult task of deciding which one player to remove for the active lineup. According to the team manager, Eric “ReiNNNN” Khor, the decision was challenging and emotional.
In the end it was decided that Net would move to the substitute role where he would take upon responsibilities of coaching and analytical work. After some deliberation on the matter, Net opted to leave the team and become a free agent where he would be able to have an active role in competition.
According to information provided, the team will not be in jeopardy of losing their direct invite to the Manila Major with the new Fnatic roster.
343 is already registered as an official player on the team and the removal of Net from the primary to sub role was mutually agreed upon. Valve had already been notified of the change.
We discussed about it with Net on the 30th of April and while he was shocked by the news, he maturely agreed that this is what we have decided and he will take a step back.
-Eric “ReiNNNN” Khor, Fnatic team manager
The new lineup will be making their debut performance in the EPICENTER Moscow Wild Card series against No Diggity.
Fnatic recent performances
Fnatic struggled to find their groove in LANs and even in minor tournaments before the Shanghai Major. However, they decided to keep their roster intact and pushed forward.
Showing up to the Shanghai Major in a completely different form, Fnatic started to take on a new life. In the last few months, they secured three LAN spots through victories in the regional qualifiers: ESL One Manila, EPICENTER Moscow and, most recently, ESL One Frankfurt 2016. They won BTS Series 4 SEA and followed up with a championship title at the SEA Kappa Invitational Season 1. The Malaysian team has been on a dominating streak lately, securing back-to-back victories, titles and LAN spots.
Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung hd been on medical leave recently and his role was filled by the substitute player Adam Erwann Shah “343” bin Akhtar Hussein.
